Will a new graphics card improve performance?

Everyone grows attached to their PC, no matter how old or badly performing, the sentiment in us hates the thought that it might just be time to move on and invest in a new machine. But is that always necessary? Or can you transform your old machine with a few new laptop parts?

The first point to consider is what exactly you intend to run on your old laptop. If you harbour thoughts of running the latest 3D games which lean heavily on the graphics subsystem, then the first of the laptop parts you will seriously need to consider investing in is a graphics card. After all, it’s no fun playing games when you know they could look a whole lot better.

For around £100 you should be able to buy good quality laptop parts, including a graphics card which is at least capable. But if you do so, what results can you expect when your computer’s processor is a bit of a relic? We tried the new card with several games and were rewarded with a worthwhile boost of double the frames on certain titles. However, on other games the new graphics card added no more than a frame or two, leaving us a little disappointed, especially considering our bank account is now £100 lighter.

Ok, so as far as laptop parts go, the new graphic card’s affect was minimal. What about some extra firepower? Sadly, once again we were completely unimpressed, and this time we spent twice as much money. What we’ve managed to prove is that if you are looking to upgrade your laptop parts, a graphic card is not the most cost effective way of boosting your laptop’s capabilities. A bottleneck is created during the play of games, and this is something a graphic card simply will not solve; this bottleneck is created by the processor.

If you are looking for affordable laptop parts then here at Parts 4 Laptops we sell high quality screens, keyboards, chargers and batteries for a wide range of manufacturers. Buy replacement laptop parts online today.

Asus Set to Release First Ultrabook Laptop

The Taiwan-based technology news outlet, DigiTimes, has reported that Hewlett Packard has plans to be the very first company to launch an Ultrabook.  If you’ve never heard of an Ultrabook, let us explain.  The Ultrabook is a lightweight form factor designed for laptop computers by Intel.  Laptop parts, especially processors, are set to evolve over each generation of Ultrabook as detailed below.

When quizzed, a HP spokesperson declined to confirm or deny the rumour and simply mentioned the company’s policy several times on a no comment stance.

It was expected that Asus would be the first original design manufacturer to release an Ultrabook onto the market following the introduction by Chairman Jonney Shih of the Asus UX21 Ultrabook at Computex.  A launch date of September for the UX21 was expected, but it now seems that HP will get there first.

The concept of the Ultrabook was something that Intel initially pushed in May at Computex in Taiwan.  Intel’s description of the new mobile device category is a laptop that measures less than 0.8 inches thick, runs on a low-power Intel chip, and costs less than $1,000.

When it comes to laptop parts for the Ultrabook, the first generation devices will be powered by one of three Sandy Bridge CPUs.  Other laptop parts in question will include low-power versions of the dual core Sandy Bridge CPU.

The second generation of Ultrabooks will feature different laptop parts and processors including Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors during the first half of 2012.  This new processor will increase energy efficiency in laptops whilst also enhancing visual performance, improving responsiveness and improving security.

2013 will see the third phase of the Ultrabooks design when Intel will launch their Haswell processor family.  By then, Intel expects these microprocessors to reduce energy consumption by 50% compared to laptops today.  These new laptop parts will enable laptops to become thinner and lighter.

With such advances in laptop technology it’s important that laptop parts manufacturers and suppliers keep up with demand.  These new Ultrabooks are looking set to take the market by storm so its important suppliers stock up and keep an ample supply of spare laptop parts and accessories.

Is your computer running slowly? Maybe laptop parts can help

A slow running computer is a massive source of frustration for many; you wait expectantly for some action, you wait a bit longer, longer still; then your computer freezes, so you start the the whole process again. There are many reasons for slow computers and those which constantly freeze. Some remedies require spare laptop parts, others just require a little bit of know-how, which you can pick up from a helpful little article just like this.

A lack of RAM will affect your computer in such a way, especially when running multiple applications simultaneously. If your laptop cannot cope with more than one program at a time then its usability is severely diminished. This can be cured; laptop parts such as extra RAM can be bought which will help to speed things up considerably.

Harmful applications can also affect your computer and come in a wide range of guises. Examples include data trackers, key loggers and other programs which are used to steal your passwords, account numbers and other sensitive data. Not only are such applications a risk to the security of your online activities, they also slow down your PC. Laptop parts are not required to solve this problem; a good antivirus application which is regularly updated should suffice.

Registry problems can also make your computer take longer than it should to start. The constant addition and removal of programs can create problems with the registry. A common problem occurs when the records in a database are missing or damaged which means the computer lacks important information it needs. Again, laptop parts are unlikely to help you out of this situation.

The above are common reasons for slow performing laptops. In most cases they are easily curable whether it’s down to new laptop parts or just a bit of know-how. If laptop parts are the way to go then you will find everything you need here at Parts4Laptops.co.uk.
